CIVILES RECOMMENDS: RHINO ROCK

Monday, November 21st, 2011

The rock band RHINO presents their first work CIRCULAR, and CIVILES was in charge of producing their CD cover and photographs, with the direction of Gabriel Pardo and photographed by Pablo Franco.

The band is composed by Jorge Abed (vocals), Claudi Marco Di Laudadio (Guitar), Guillermo Maffeo (base) and Pablo Pereyra (Drums), and presents a sound deeply influenced by the great bands of grunge and indie rock of the 90s such as Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and FaithNoMore. The album CIRCULAR was produced, recorded and mixed by the talented producer Sebastian Perkal, winner of a Latin Grammy to Best Sound Engineer in 2010 and nominee of the Gardel Awards in 2006 and 2008. Furthermore, the mastering was done by Eduardo Bergallo, founder of the first mastering studio in Argentina.

RHINO has been present in great stages of the world like Unione e Benevolenza, Vans Rock & Ramp, Bukowski, Costumbres Argentinas, GIER, Festival Primavera Vicente Lopez, Red Bell and Club X.

By Lucrecia Martel, for PRADA.

CIVILES SUGGESTS: WWW.LUCILAGODOY.COM

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

This time our multifaceted top model Lucila Godoy surprises us with one of her most sensitive personal projects: photography.

Lucila’s camera finds those images that lie in every corner, but are usually missed by the daily eye. This way, in her web page arise sections such as “Breadcrumbs” (Migajas), “Corners” (Rincones) and “Moments” (Momentos), which reveal familiar places, but seen from a different perspective, or “Series,” “Union” and “T” that build parallel worlds with more than one picture. Lucila’s work is a trip without leaving the PC.

We suggest you visiting her new website, recently online: www.lucilagodoy.com.

FLOR ZABALA BREAKS THE SILENCE

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

Flor Zabala steps down the runway, but to step back again from a side. The Argentine top model – based years ago in New York – hits the headlines again with her first EP, recorded in a collaboration with Newyorker producer David Patillo. With rocker sounds that remind us a little of Peaches’ electroclash, the album fills the dance floor with glamour. Such is the case that prestigious Costume National chose Flor to be the sound of the launch of their Fall/Winter 11/12 collection. Just entering into the label’s website, The Zabala’s tunes welcome us with pure rock. Up on the runway or down the runway, Flor is a hit.

CIVILES SUGGESTS: CORRESPONDENCIA

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

With an office located in 1941’s building Los Eucaliptos – designed by architects Jorge Ferrari Hardoy and Juan Kurchan on Virrey del Pino 2446 – “Correspondencia” magazine (a project by Juan Ignacio Moralejo) emerges to shake “porteña” publishing scene. The project consists of a biannual literary and arts magazine, which in contrast with most of current publications, is printed in paper and has a good 80 pages of images in color and 80 pages of text in Spanish and English. Its creator is a journalist from Bahía Blanca (Buenos Aires province) who studied in Buenos Aires. In 2001, when as an aftermath of the economic crisis many people where leaving Argentine floor to find better opportunities, he gave himself the chance of enjoying an internship at The Directors Bureau (a small company founded by Mike Mills, Roman Coppola, and his famous sister Sofia). At his return he worked as an art director in some of the most renown local ad agencies.

After completing his first editorial project “Sede”, Moralejo surprises us again with its extremely good taste in this delicate editorial creation including names as well known as Wolfgang Tillmans, Nahuel Vecino, Javier Arroyuelo, Kenneth Anger, and Francis Scott Fitzgerald, among many, many others.

CIVILES SUGGESTS: JAZZ AL SUR

Monday, May 16th, 2011

It is not exaggerated to say that Francisco Andrade has done it all: he modeled for the best brands, like Prada, Armani, and Hermès, in Argentina and in Europe; studied drama at the Nueva Escuela de Teatro de Buenos Aires; acted in several porteño underground plays, feature films, and TV; and he attended the National Conservatory of Music, where he specialized in percussion and drums – nowadays, he is the drummer of Vibra, a music project that is now recording their debut album and joins Civiles in the quest for new talents throughout the country –, and is the host of Jazz al sur, aired on Canal á.

This show, which is broadcasted every Wednesday at 9pm and it’s repeated several days a week, presents a deep film-oriented view on current jazz. Francisco goes through rehearsal and recording studios, interviewing musicians like Walter Malosetti, Pipi Piazzolla, and Ibrahim Ferrer Jr. Civiles suggests this show full of swing, just like jazz!

THROUGHOUT ARGENTINA

Monday, May 16th, 2011

HERNÁN CORERA IN TRENDHUNTER

Friday, April 15th, 2011

The Argentine photographer and music videos director keeps rising to the top. This time, he appeared in Trendhunter, a respected trends community, where he was featured for his “cinematic and sincere” images. Apart from doing creative and advertising photography, Hernán has also made videos for Mustafa Yoda, Dante Spinetta, and Don Adams, among others, so he deserves being recognized in this fundamental trends site. You can see the article at http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hernan-corera.

CIVILES RECOMMENDS: RADHIOHEAD ‘THE KING OF LIMBS’

Friday, April 15th, 2011

As it happens every time they release an album, Radiohead never goes unnoticed. This time, they surprised us by suddenly editing their eighth album in digital format. That is not all there is: the CD version is expected to come out this week and they finally announced that, in May, a luxury edition will be released. This edition will only be available on their website and will include some exclusive vinyls.

But ‘The King of Limbs’ has much more to offer than just their marketing strategies. This time, the band combined the electronic experiments initiated in ‘Kid A’ and deepened in Thom Yorke’s solo album, ‘The Eraser,’ with the most organic textures of his previous album ‘In Rainbows’ and new influences, as afrobeat and dubstep. The result is economical, as the album lasts only 37 seconds, and hypnotic.

‘The King of Limbs’ is a demanding record, but it has its reward: as the good song goldsmiths they are, they get us to discover new arrangements and seasonings in every new listen. Besides, it reassures that Radiohead is one of the few bands with commercial success that stills searches for innovations.

Civiles recommends you run to the closer store and buy this charming album. Meanwhile, we share with you the video of the single “Lotus Flower” to tempt you.

Our country’s south has become, in the last few years, one of the tourism’s hot spots worldwide. After his recent trip through the Patagonia, our Dutch photographer and partner in crime, Marc Van der Aa, provided us with pictures that reveal, through his lens, the spectacular and diverse landscapes that crowd the area. Civiles wishes you a happy carnival with an irresistible invitation: next Saturday 12, regarding Carnival celebrations, it will take place “Carnaval en la calle”, hosted by the prominent Noe Mourier (Coco) and Lolo Fuentes (Miranda!). The idea came out as a collaboration between Vulk Eyewear, Lunfarda magazine, and Roho Hair Boutique (sponsored by Civiles) aiming at create a fashion event to start 2011 with a lot of rhythm, color, and joy.

The celebration will take place at Roho’s in Palermo and, as the main show, there will be a costume contest that will have guests such as Tramando, AY Not Dead, Merbellux, Amores Trash Couture, Pomba Negra, Kito Rojas, D. CIVILES PROPOSES: LEO DAMARIO

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

This Argentine young man has been growing in popularity since he was 16, when he created an animated sitcom for MTV. At 19, he directed the short film “¡Yok!,” starring Emmanuel Horvilleur and, shortly after, “Gratis, el rockumental”, which recorded one of Babasónicos’ shows. This new film talent, who honors women’s beauty, continued its career in the production company Banana Films and shooting videos for bands, such as Miranda! and Babasónicos. His first full-length film is “Olympia”, swarming with beautiful models (many of them from Civiles, including Mecha Iñigo). The movie deals with porn industry and social networks, and Ale Sergi was in charge of the soundtrack. Olympia is an 18-year-old girl that spends a lot of money, listens to good music and, through her girlfriend, she enters porn industry. You’ll have to watch the movie to see how this story continues…

CIVILES SUGGESTS: WONDERWOOD

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

A new fragrance from our smell guru: Comme des Garçons.

The latest fragrance of the Japanese fashion brand designed by the genius Rei Kawakubo is, in her own words: “An evocation of exuberance. A positive wood overdose, notes of wood and synthetic wood constructions. (Wood has gone mad.)”

The note’s combinations include agarwood, cedarwood, sandalwood, cypress, gaiacwood, patchouli, vetiver, javanol, and cashmeran and pachminol. They are all very mystic and oriental scents. As a way of celebrating the launch of Wonderwood, the well-known artists of Stop Motion, the Quay Brothers, created a wonderful short film that conveys the essence of the new fragrance.

CIVILES RECOMMENDS: LUNFARDA MAGAZINE

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Gustavo Di Mario and Nicolás Monti’s publishing project is already on its fifth edition, and, with all its confidence, its look goes through places which are not so frequently visited. With Di Mario’s beautiful photos, Lunfarda is turning into the new cult magazine.

You can’t miss the chance of seeing it: www.revistalunfarda.com.ar. “Gente de mal vivir”.
